Gaza memorial shroud travels through Italy to honor deceased children
A large memorial shroud, measuring approximately 25 meters in length and 8 meters in width, is traveling through Italy to honor over 18,000 Palestinian children killed in the Gaza Strip between October 7, 2023, and mid-2025. The white cloth features the handwritten names of the deceased and was organized by the Collettivo di Carnia per la pace.
The shroud was recently exhibited at the Cathedral of Mazara del Vallo, where hundreds of faithful attended a moment of prayer led by local clergy, including Bishop Angelo Giurdanella. Organizers stated the gesture aims to restore identity to those killed, transforming anonymous statistics into individual stories and faces.
The initiative is scheduled to arrive in Bari on September 24. Organizers have called for a silent procession through the city streets starting from Piazza Diaz, inviting civil society and institutions to participate in a collective reflection on the conflict.
