Gaza missing persons crisis: 11,200 people unaccounted for

Families in the Gaza Strip are facing profound uncertainty regarding approximately 11,200 missing persons. These individuals fall into three categories: those whose bodies remain unrecovered under rubble or have been lost to the elements, detainees whose whereabouts are unacknowledged by Israeli authorities, and those whose circumstances of disappearance remain entirely unknown.

One such case involves six-year-old Jalal al-Barsh, a child with autism who disappeared from his family's tent near the 'Yellow Line' in the Safatawi area of northern Gaza 90 days ago. His parents have searched dangerous zones, including the Al-Qurm area, following reports that he may have crossed into Israeli military-controlled territory. Despite appeals to international institutions to intervene and seek information from the Israeli military, no answers have been provided.

Mohammad Salha, coordinator for the Civil Society Organizations Network, noted that the lack of cooperation regarding these cases leaves families in a state of constant distress, unable to determine if their loved ones are dead or held in captivity.
