Gaza Palestinians scavenge trash for cooking fuel
Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are facing extreme shortages of fuel and food. Many families are forced to scavenge through garbage dumps for combustible materials, such as plastic, to use as fuel for cooking meals.
Displaced populations are also relying on scarce charity kitchens, though many report that the available food is insufficient to meet their needs. While the Israeli government maintains that enough food is being permitted into the territory, residents describe a situation where many leave kitchens with empty pots.
These conditions persist ten months after a fragile ceasefire was established between Israel and Hamas. Many families living in displacement camps and war-ravaged buildings expressed skepticism regarding the progress of ongoing negotiations intended to end the conflict.
