Gaza population faces shrinking territory and automated weapons, MSF reports
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has issued a warning regarding the shrinking living space for the population in the Gaza Strip. The humanitarian organization reports that Israeli forces currently occupy approximately 65% of the territory, utilizing a ‘yellow line’ that acts as a de facto border. This line, initially presented as a temporary defensive measure, has been reinforced with military posts and demolitions, progressively compressing the population into smaller areas.
MSF officials state that the lack of clear boundaries for this zone puts civilians at risk of being targeted by gunfire and obstructs the distribution of essential goods. Amande Bazerolle, MSF’s emergency response lead in Gaza, described the line as a tool of encirclement that isolates communities from healthcare and vital infrastructure.
In addition to territorial compression, reports from the ground describe the use of automated and remote-controlled weapons. Witnesses and MSF medical supervisors have documented the use of old, abandoned tanks filled with explosives and operated remotely. These ‘robots’ are reportedly moved into civilian neighborhoods, such as Shuja'iyya, before being detonated, causing total destruction of surrounding buildings and high civilian casualties.
