Gaza residents use swimming for relief and rehabilitation

In the Gaza Strip, swimming has become a vital outlet for relief and rehabilitation amidst the ongoing conflict. Lifeguards along the Gaza City shoreline work with limited equipment, such as lacking rescue buoys and watchtowers, to monitor crowded beaches and prevent drownings. The Gaza Municipality's marine rescue department currently employs approximately 120 lifeguards, a decrease from the 140 active before the war.

In Deir al-Balah, swimming programs are being used to support the psychological recovery of children who have lost limbs due to the war. Through a partnership between the Al-Shifa Palestine Foundation and Tanzeef Swimming Academy, coaches are working to help amputee children rebuild confidence and regain a sense of normality through sport.
