Gaza Strip reconstruction faces massive material and social challenges

The reconstruction of the Gaza Strip presents a monumental material and social challenge. Since October 2023, the conflict has resulted in over 73,000 Palestinian deaths, approximately 173,000 injuries, and the forced displacement of 1.9 million people.

A United Nations report from August 10 indicates that military actions have continued despite previous ceasefire agreements. In July alone, approximately 160 Palestinians were killed, including women, children, and the elderly in densely populated displacement zones such as Al-Mawasi. UN experts noted that “no place in Gaza is safe.”

Beyond physical infrastructure, experts emphasize the need for profound psychological and social recovery. The war has destroyed essential institutions, including schools, universities, libraries, hospitals, and cultural archives, complicating the efforts to preserve Palestinian memory and rebuild the societal fabric.
