Gaza war and election restrictions impact Palestinian political future
Palestinian Liberation Organization Executive Committee member Ahmed Majdalani stated that the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip is part of a strategic plan to destroy infrastructure and prevent the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He argued the conflict aims to facilitate displacement and annexation rather than merely combating terrorism.
Simultaneously, the Israeli government has reportedly refused to allow the Palestinian Central Election Commission to enter Gaza and Jerusalem. This move complicates preparations for legislative elections scheduled for November 28. While the Commission's spokesperson, Farid Taamallah, noted that staff continue to work in Gaza through local offices, the restriction raises concerns regarding the potential postponement or cancellation of the electoral process.
