Gaza war leaves 18 dead rescued from rubble and devastates poultry industry

Civil defence teams in Gaza rescued the bodies of 18 people, mostly women and children, from the collapsed home of the Karem family on Industry Street. The operation highlighted the lack of heavy equipment, the danger of further collapses and the ongoing search for additional missing residents.

The Gaza Ministry of Agriculture reported near‑total destruction of the territory’s poultry sector. All closed‑housing farms were destroyed, 95% of open‑housing farms were damaged and total losses were estimated at $30.7 million. The sector, which previously supplied about 50,000 tonnes of white meat and 15,000 tonnes of eggs each year, was a key component of local food security.
