Gaziantep and Gazimağusa Formalize Sister‑City Partnership

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and the municipality of Gazimağusa in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus signed a sister‑city protocol, making Gazimağusa Gaziantep’s 29th and Gaziantep the 10th sister city for Gazimağusa. The ceremony in Gaziantep was attended by Mayor Fatma Şahin, Gazimağusa Mayor Dr. Süleyman Uluçay, Şehitkamil Mayor Umut Yılmaz, and representatives of the International Democrats Union and the KKTC consulate.

The agreement outlines cooperation in infrastructure, environment, transport, waste management, gastronomy, culture, education, youth, sports and social services. Both mayors emphasized shared heritage and a common future, with Şahin noting “we are one, together, brothers” and Uluçay highlighting Gazimağusa’s role as a productive, developing city with a major port and tourism potential.
