Gaziantep artisans recycle Kutnu fabric scraps into handmade goods
In Gaziantep, traditional Kutnu fabric—a material made from cotton and silk—is being repurposed through recycling efforts. Dilara Sayın, a 20-year-old master artisan and graduate of the Industrial Embroidery Department, is transforming small fabric scraps that would otherwise be discarded into new products.
These recycled items include bags, wallets, vests, and various pieces of clothing. The initiative has garnered interest from local citizens and foreign tourists visiting the region.
Additionally, artisan Abdulkadir Mekki continues to produce regional Kutnu fabrics and works to train new apprentices to ensure the traditional craft is preserved for future generations.
