Father Sentenced to 17 Years for Killing Son in Kastamonu, Turkey

On 8 November 2025, Hüseyin Çalık shot his 42‑year‑old son Önder Çalık during a garden dispute in Kuyluş village, Taşköprü district, Kastamonu Province. Önder was taken to Taşköprü State Hospital but died despite medical treatment.

Hüseyin Çalık was arrested, detained and tried before the Kastamonu Heavy Penal Court. The court convicted him of aggravated homicide and illegal firearm possession. Applying a provocation reduction, the homicide sentence was set at 15 years, and the illegal‑firearm charge carried a 2‑year‑1‑month term plus a ₺20,800 fine, totaling 17 years 1 month of imprisonment.

During sentencing, Çalık proclaimed, “Ben oğlumu öldürecek bir baba değilim… Tahliyemi talep ediyorum,” asserting he was not the kind of father who would kill his child.
