Gaziantep City Theatre hosts street festival in Bey Mahallesi

The Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality City Theatre held the ‘Street Theater Festival’ in the historic Bey Mahallesi from September 4 to 6. The event featured the production ‘Bey Mahallesi Öyküleri’ (Bey Mahallesi Stories), which aims to bring the city's collective memory to life through performances set directly within the historic streets.

The production consists of two distinct stories: ‘Kiraz’ and ‘Eski Sinema Sokağı / Nakıp Ali’. ‘Kiraz’ explores childhood friendships and memories through the perspective of a literature teacher, while ‘Eski Sinema Sokağı / Nakıp Ali’ traces the nostalgic history of a local building that transitioned from a church to an orphanage and finally to the city's first cinema.

Directed by Ahmet Serhat Artunç and written by Zerrin Yanıkkaya, the play utilizes the unique texture of the historic neighborhood as part of the performance, moving away from traditional stage settings to integrate the environment into the storytelling.
