Gaziantep Commodity Exchange holds export risk management training
The Gaziantep Commodity Exchange (GTB) organized a training program titled ‘Pricing, Cost, and Risk Management in Export’ to enhance the competitiveness and capacity of its members in international markets. The initiative is part of the ‘Gaziantep Commodity Exchange Food Sector 3rd UR-GE Project,’ supported by the Ministry of Trade under the circular for supporting the development of international competitiveness.
Led by foreign trade consultant Turan Akın, the training focused on establishing accurate export prices through comprehensive cost analysis. Akın emphasized that while cost structures determine the floor price, target market conditions and buyer perceived value establish the ceiling. The curriculum covered various cost elements, including production, logistics, financing, customs, and operational expenses, as well as documentation and packaging.
The program also addressed risk management strategies, specifically focusing on fluctuations in exchange rates, interest rates, and prices. Akın highlighted that currency volatility affects not only export revenues but also future cash flows, advising firms to analyze foreign exchange positions and utilize financial hedging methods such as forward and option contracts, alongside insuring export receivables.
