Turkish municipalities host traditional circumcision festivals
Muratpaşa district in Antalya announced applications for its 12th Traditional Circumcision Festival, offering free participation for children aged 5‑12. Registrations remain open until 24 July.
In Gümüşhane, the governor Cevdet Atay led a convoy‑tour for circumcised boys as part of a ceremony organized with the Trabzon Vakıflar Regional Directorate. Children received gifts of gold items and bicycles and were welcomed with food and speeches emphasizing the historic vakıf tradition dating back to the 15th century.
Gaziantep also held a similar festival, reviving the long‑standing vakıf custom of communal circumcision celebrations.
The AK Party branch in Narlıdere district arranged a mass circumcision event for 24 boys, featuring performances, a mehter band, and other entertainment, with officials and local representatives in attendance.
