Turkish officials award gold medals and scholarships to top LGS students
The Istanbul governor, Davut Gül, and the Gaziantep mayor, Fatma Şahin, presented gold‑medal awards and lifelong scholarships to students who scored a perfect 500 on the 2026 Liselere Geçiş Sistemi (LGS). In Istanbul, 101 students who achieved full marks were honored in a ceremony at the governor’s residence, receiving gold medals, watches, certificates and a pledge of tuition‑free education for the duration of their high‑school studies. The governor also announced that roughly 1,700 Istanbul and Anatolian students will receive the bursary, and those coming from other provinces will be given four airline tickets each, sponsored by AnadoluJet.
In Gaziantep, 11 perfect‑score students were visited at their homes by the mayor, who presented each with a gold medal and announced a trip to Bosnia‑Herzegovina as part of the “Education‑Friendly Gaziantep” program. Both events emphasized that academic success is being supported alongside broader educational and moral development goals.
The initiatives aim to reward exceptional academic performance, ease financial burdens for families, and encourage continued study in Turkey’s high‑school system.
