Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality launches 60 million TL water project in Karkamış

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality has launched the Arıkdere Drinking Water Project in the Karkamış district to address seasonal water shortages in rural areas. The project, which cost 60 million TL, utilizes a 16.5-kilometer pipeline constructed with 250-millimeter diameter ductile pipes to transport water from the Euphrates River.

The first phase of the project provides drinking water to seven rural neighborhoods: Alagöz, Arıkdere, Akçaköy, Öncüler, Türkyurdu, Büyükeşme, and Küçükeşme, benefiting approximately 5,000 residents.

Mayor Fatma Şahin announced that the second stage of the project is already underway. Once completed, this next phase will extend water services from the Euphrates River to the Çiftlik, Ayyıldız, Balaban, and Alaçalı neighborhoods.
