Gaziantep opens Atlas Low Vision Rehabilitation Center
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality has launched the Atlas Low Vision Rehabilitation Center within its Barrier-Free Life Center. Established through a cooperation protocol with Gaziantep University and Ankara University, the facility is designed to support individuals experiencing a reduction in visual acuity or field of vision.
The center aims to help individuals maximize their remaining vision to improve independent living skills and social participation. It will provide rehabilitation services for those who have experienced loss of visual function despite medical and surgical treatments. Specific focus areas include addressing difficulties in near vision, light sensitivity, reduced contrast perception, and color vision issues, with an emphasis on early intervention for children.
The opening ceremony included a fashion show featuring clothing designed from local Gaziantep kutnu fabric, dance performances, and folk music. During the event, Mayor Fatma Şahin emphasized the importance of removing barriers for disabled individuals, sharing personal family experiences regarding the impact of accessibility on life opportunities.
