Gaziantep sees surge in tourism and sales during extended 9‑day Eid al‑Adha holiday

Turkey extended the Eid al‑Adha break to nine days, prompting large numbers of visitors from other provinces to flock to Gaziantep. Historic bazaars such as the Bakırcılar Çarşısı filled with shoppers buying spices, dried fruit, tomato paste and locally made copper items. Merchants reported that the holiday "made us smile" and that sales were "very good," with Nusret Yılmaz saying the extended break boosted his shop’s turnover.

The influx also lifted activity in hotels and restaurants, as visitors praised the city’s hospitality, food culture and historic atmosphere. Tourists like Esin Temur highlighted Gaziantep’s appealing historic texture, while Sebahat Özdemir Mavi from İzmir described the festive atmosphere as "exciting" and confirmed she would spend the entire holiday in the city. Overall, the nine‑day holiday stimulated both tourism and retail sectors, delivering a noticeable boost to Gaziantep’s local economy.
