Gaziantep to reconstruct historic Dülük Baba Zaviyesi and Tomb

The Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality has announced plans to reconstruct the Dülük Baba Zaviyesi and Tomb at its original location. The site holds significant spiritual and historical importance, tracing back to the 7th-century Islamic arrival in the region during the era of Caliph Umar.

The structure had undergone significant deterioration since the early 20th century. While much of the original architecture remained intact until the 1960s, further damage occurred during the 1980s when the Dülük Baba Hill was utilized for military and communication purposes, leading to the removal of the remaining historical elements.

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin inspected the site with a technical team, emphasizing the responsibility to preserve the city's 12,000-year history. Şahin stated, "We need to teach our own civilization, our history, and our religious past to future generations. We must convey the spiritual soul of these lands."
