Gaziantep University performs Turkey's first pediatric pulmonary valve replacements

Gaziantep University (GAÜN) Children's Hospital has performed a first in Turkey by successfully replacing next-generation pulmonary valves in three pediatric patients via a minimally invasive method.

The procedure allows for the replacement of a malfunctioning pulmonary valve through a blood vessel without opening the chest cavity. The valve, which can reach a diameter of 3 centimeters, is guided from the groin to the heart via angiography.

The operations, which lasted approximately ninety minutes each, were led by Prof. Dr. Jae-Young Choi from South Korea and GAÜN Pediatric Cardiology Department Head Prof. Dr. Osman Başpınar, with the assistance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derya Aydın Şahin. All three patients were discharged the following day.
