Gaziantep's Pişirici Kasteli attracts tourists after restoration

The Pişirici Kasteli and Mosque in the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep have become a significant attraction for both domestic and international tourists. These historical water structures, which include unique underground systems and tunnels known as livas, showcase the architectural heritage of the 13th century.

Included on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2018, the site has undergone multiple restoration efforts. The General Directorate of Foundations conducted a major restoration in 2006, followed by further work by the Şahinbey Municipality in 2016. These efforts have allowed the site to serve as both a historical landmark and a place of worship.

The structures feature various functional areas, including spaces for washing, resting, and religious observance. Visitors are particularly drawn to the site's natural coolness, as water is sourced from 7 meters underground.
