EU urges Kosovo to halt demolition of Serbian cabins at Gazivode lake

The EU mission in Pristina issued multiple statements demanding that Kosovo authorities immediately halt the demolition of Serbian‑owned cabins on the shore of Gazivode lake. The demolitions, carried out by the public enterprise Ibar‑Lepenac and supported by heavily‑armed police units, targeted about 11 structures that owners say were built legally or under long‑term leases. The EU said the actions violated established legal procedures, proportionality and property‑rights standards, and warned that “non‑reversible enforcement measures” threaten the rule of law. Serbia condemned the raids as “acts of lawlessness” and accused Kosovo’s prime minister Albin Kurti of pursuing an anti‑Serb policy. German and British embassies echoed the EU’s concern and called for transparent, lawful solutions. Kosovo officials were urged to contact affected residents, pause forced evictions and seek lawful resolutions while the pending court cases proceed.
