GB Energy job targets disputed by SNP

UK Energy and Jobs Minister Martin McCluskey has faced accusations from the SNP of being dishonest regarding job creation targets for GB Energy in Aberdeen. While GB Energy chairman Jürgen Maier previously suggested the company could create more than 1,000 jobs at its headquarters in the north east, McCluskey stated to Times Radio that the government is aiming for approximately 300 direct employees, adding that the company was “never meant” to employ 1,000 direct staff.

The SNP has labeled the remarks “shameful,” accusing the Labour government of breaking election promises. Jack Middleton, SNP MSP for Aberdeen Central, further criticized the government's energy policies, claiming they are harming Scotland's offshore industry and energy sector.
