Gbenga Komolafe Threatens $10bn Libel Suit Against Nigerian TV Station

Former chief executive of Nigeria’s Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Gbenga Komolafe, issued a pre‑action notice to Voice of the People Television (VOP TV). VOP TV, a Lagos‑based broadcaster co‑founded by Rufai Oseni and managed by Precious Enyi, aired a programme in which in‑house legal analyst Barrister Darlington Agomou claimed that a forensic examination of Komolafe’s department uncovered missing funds of N5 trillion and US$1.4 billion.

Komolafe’s lawyers, Ojukwu Chikaosolu & Co., demanded an immediate public retraction, an unreserved written apology and removal of the broadcast from all platforms. The notice gave VOP TV 48 hours to retract the statements and 72 hours to apologise, warning that failure to comply would lead to a libel lawsuit seeking up to ₦10 billion in damages.
