Głębokie Doły nature reserve to be established in Silesia
A new nature reserve, named ‘Głębokie Doły im. prof. Floriana Celińskiego’, is being established in the Silesian Voivodeship. Effective October 6, the reserve will encompass 183.65 hectares of forest within the Rybnik Forest District. An additional buffer zone of 172.01 hectares has also been designated.
Located within the ‘Cysterskie Kompozycje Krajobrazowe Rud Wielkich’ Landscape Park, the area features beech forests, spring areas, stream valleys, and ravines. The reserve aims to protect a diverse ecosystem, including various species of woodpeckers, bats, and rare plants. The presence of significant amounts of dead wood provides essential habitats for fungi and insects.
Following social consultations with residents of Rybnik and Czerwionka-Leszczyny, the area will remain accessible for recreational use. Pedestrians, cyclists, and dog walkers are permitted, and mushroom picking will be allowed in designated areas. The initiative to protect this land dates back to 1993.
