Gábor Pósfai proposes stricter domestic violence and road safety laws
Hungarian Interior Minister Gábor Pósfai has announced plans to tighten regulations regarding domestic violence and road safety. The Ministry of Interior is developing legislative proposals to increase the effectiveness of prevention and deterrence.
Key proposals include extending the duration of court-ordered restraining orders and granting police officers greater intervention powers. Pósfai emphasized the need for earlier official intervention when behaviors threatening a victim's safety are detected, rather than waiting for situations to escalate.
The Minister noted that recent specific incidents highlighted gaps in current laws concerning domestic violence and traffic safety. The Ministry intends to initiate consultations with relevant regulatory departments to implement these changes and ensure stricter penalties for those endangering lives or physical integrity.
