GC Biopharma unveils proprietary mRNA-LNP platform capabilities
GC Biopharma has unveiled the capabilities of its proprietary mRNA-LNP (messenger RNA-lipid nanoparticle) platform at recent international and domestic academic conferences, including the Gene and Cell Therapy Summit in Austria.
The company demonstrated significant advancements in mRNA design and manufacturing. By applying AI-based codon optimization to its self-developed UTR sequences and polyA structures, GC Biopharma has increased protein translation efficiency by more than 50% compared to benchmarks. The company currently holds eight patents related to mRNA components.
In the field of lipid nanoparticles (LNP), the company’s proprietary technology showed stable protein expression in primate models even after repeated intravenous administration, without the formation of antibodies against PEG. This suggests high potential for treating chronic diseases that require repeated dosing. Additionally, the platform has demonstrated high delivery efficiency across various tissues, including the lungs, spleen, brain, and immune cells, in animal models. Research into anti-cancer vaccines also showed stronger antigen-specific CD8+ T-cell responses and significant tumor reduction.
GC Biopharma plans to expand the application of this platform to rare genetic diseases, chronic inflammatory diseases, and cancer immunotherapy. The company’s Hwasun plant is already equipped with cGMP-level manufacturing capabilities for mRNA-LNP. Currently, the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine candidate ‘GC4006A’, which utilizes this platform, has entered Phase 2 clinical trials as a government-led national project.
