GCAP Electronics Evolution awarded contract for sixth-generation fighter systems

The GCAP Electronics Evolution (G2E) consortium has been awarded an 18-month contract to develop sensing and communication capabilities for the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) sixth-generation fighter aircraft.

Awarded by Edgewing—a joint venture between Leonardo S. p. A., Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement Co. Ltd. (JAIEC), and BAE Systems plc—the contract focuses on the development of Integrated Sensing And Non-Kinetic Effects & Integrated Communications Systems (ISANKE & ICS). These systems are designed to fuse large volumes of data, providing pilots with information superiority in complex and contested 21st-century airspaces.

The G2E consortium is an international collaboration involving defense electronics leaders from Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Participating companies include ELT Group (Italy), Leonardo S. p. A. (Italy), Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (Japan), and Leonardo UK Ltd. (UK).
