GCC enterprises face AI implementation hurdles due to data and talent gaps
Enterprises across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are facing a critical talent shortage in data engineering and science, which is stalling artificial intelligence implementations. While regional demand for AI is high, many projects fail because the underlying data is not prepared. Research indicates that only 7% of enterprises have fully prepared data for AI, and nearly 80% cite limited data access as a primary obstacle.
To address this, Mahala.ai is expanding its remote talent solutions to the UAE and wider GCC. The company aims to bridge the gap by placing senior remote specialists—such as Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and MLOps experts—into sovereign or VDI environments. This approach allows specialists to work from anywhere while ensuring regulated data remains within national jurisdictions, bypassing the reluctance of senior professionals to relocate.
Simultaneously, Global Capability Centers (GCCs) are evolving from traditional cost-saving hubs into strategic engines for enterprise transformation. According to Accenture, 75% of these centers have moved beyond AI experimentation to scaling AI and data initiatives. The rise of Agentic AI, which can reason and execute multi-step workflows, is further driving this shift toward AI-native operating models.
