Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area to transform into formal union

The Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area has unanimously decided to begin the process of transforming its current association into a formal metropolitan union. This decision allows for the submission of a formal application to the Ministry of Interior and Administration.

To implement this change, public consultations will be held across nine counties. Local leaders, including the Presidents of Gdynia and Gdańsk, emphasized that the goal of the new union is to increase regional competitiveness and improve the quality of life for residents. The metropolitan union is expected to officially begin operations in January 2027 and is projected to include 61 counties and municipalities.
