Gdańsk honors Jacek Kołtan, Piotr Pawlak and Jolanta Woszczenko with 2025 Splendor Gedanensis awards

The City of Gdańsk presented its annual Splendor Gedanensis cultural prizes for 2025 to three individuals and two institutions. Historian Jacek Kołtan was recognized for his book on the evolution of the concept of solidarity, mathematician‑pianist Piotr Pawlak for his concert activity and a Chopin competition semi‑final, and curator Jolanta Woszczenko for the award‑winning audio‑video installation “Języki z wody” at the Venice Biennale.

The Nadbałtyckie Centrum Kultury received an award for its “LeŚnia” project, and the Gdańsk‑Lech Wałęsa Airport was named Gdańsk Cultural Patron for financially supporting the National Museum’s acquisition of historic photographs. Each laureate received a 25,000‑złoty prize and a diploma.

The ceremony was attended by city officials, cultural representatives and NGO leaders, emphasizing the role of culture in the city’s social and economic development.
