Polish highland regions host traditional autumn sheep herding festivals
Traditional autumn sheep herding celebrations, known as redyk, are taking place in the Polish highlands. In Szczawnica, the event will run from October 8 to 10, 2026, marking its first three-day format. The festivities will include a parade of hundreds of sheep led by shepherd Andrzej Majerski, along with workshops, demonstrations of regional cheese production, and musical performances.
In the Beskid Śląski region, Istebna and Koniakow will host their autumn redyk on October 9. The event features a procession led by shepherd Jan Bzdyk, moving sheep from Złoty Gronień to Tyniok. The program includes religious blessings, traditional music from groups such as Wałasi, and demonstrations of traditional cheese making, celebrating the centuries-old pastoral heritage of the area.
