Gdańsk signs Ukraine reconstruction pact and municipal council denounces Zelensky's UPA honorific

In Gdańsk, representatives of Polish and Ukrainian businesses, banks, organisations and government signed a declaration establishing the Coalition of Resilient Communities. The pact, announced during the "Women Rebuilding Ukraine" event and the opening of an international conference on Ukraine’s reconstruction, aims to combine business resources with local Ukrainian needs, promote long‑term, crisis‑resilient infrastructure, and increase the role of women in reconstruction efforts.

At the same time, the Gdańsk City Council issued a formal statement rejecting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to award a Ukrainian Armed Forces unit the title "Heroes of UPA". The council cited the Ukrainian Insurgent Army’s crimes against Polish civilians, recognised by the Polish Sejm as genocide, and stressed that honouring such a formation contradicts historical truth and Polish‑Ukrainian partnership. The council’s objection was made ahead of the URC 2026 conference on Ukraine’s reconstruction, which Gdańsk will host.
