Gdańsk train collision: Bosnian truck driver faces charges

A 42-year-old truck driver from Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing charges in Poland after a collision with a train in Gdańsk. The incident occurred on Niegowska Street when the driver entered a railway crossing just as the barriers were descending, causing the vehicle to become trapped between them.

A train traveling on the Gdańsk Główny to Zielona Góra route, carrying between 250 and 300 passengers, struck the truck's trailer. Fortunately, no passengers or the train driver were injured. Both the truck driver and the train driver underwent medical examinations and tested negative for alcohol.

Prosecutor Violeta Noh of the Gdańsk District Prosecutor's Office stated that the driver is charged with causing immediate danger of a traffic accident under Article 174, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to three years. During his hearing, the driver pleaded not guilty but provided an explanation. Preventive non-custodial measures have been applied while the competent Polish court determines criminal liability.
