GDDR7 memory chips could double graphics card capacity within two years

New leaks suggest that 4GB and 6GB GDDR7 memory chips could arrive within the next two years, potentially doubling the capacity of graphics cards. Currently, most gaming-focused GPUs rely on 2GB memory chips, which limits total VRAM based on the bus width and number of chips used.

The introduction of larger, non-binary capacity chips could significantly shift the potential for high-capacity graphics cards. For instance, a 64-bit bus could theoretically support up to 24GB of capacity using 6GB chips. This development is being driven in part by the high demand for larger memory capacities within the AI segment.
