GDDR7 memory shortages drive up graphics card prices
A shortage of GDDR7 memory has led to price increases for graphics cards in China, with price hikes expected to reach European and US markets within one to two weeks. Manufacturers including ASUS and Gigabyte have already raised prices for RTX 50-series models in China.
High-end models are seeing the most significant increases. For instance, the price of the ASUS RTX 5080 16 GB rose by 1,000 Yuan, while Gigabyte increased its price for the same model by 1,200 Yuan. Other models, such as the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070, have also seen adjustments. AMD graphics cards have reportedly increased by 100 to 350 RMB, equivalent to approximately 20 to 50 US dollars.
Market spot prices in China have also surged. The RTX 5080 16 GB has seen prices climb from a range of 12,700–13,500 Yuan to between 14,500 and 15,000 Yuan. Some Chinese retailers are charging up to 1,299 US dollars for the RTX 5080, despite a manufacturer suggested retail price of 999 US dollars.
