GDL warns of new strike as Saarbahn keeps replacement buses

The German train drivers' union GDL announced a further warning strike for Monday, following the premature end of a previous strike that halted the Saarbahn S1 line for about twelve hours. The union, represented in the region by district chair Nico Rebenack, said precise strike times will be communicated later. Despite the disruption, Saarbahn GmbH confirmed that the already‑arranged rail‑replacement bus service will continue over the weekend and on Monday, ensuring transport for commuters as schools reopen in Saarland.

The dispute stems from stalled collective‑bargaining talks between GDL and the Kommunaler Arbeitgeberverband Saar (KAV Saar) over working‑time and pay conditions specific to the tram‑bus operation. Both parties have exchanged letters seeking to correct public statements and to resume negotiations at the bargaining table.
