GdP demands electronic ankle monitors for Berlin sabotage suspects
The German Police Union (GdP) is calling for the use of electronic ankle monitors for suspects involved in alleged left-wing extremist sabotage in Berlin. The demand follows investigations into an attack on the power supply of the Berlin-Adlershof technology park in September 2025.
Stephan Weh, the Berlin GdP state leader, argued that such measures should be applied to these suspects just as they are used for Islamist threats. He noted that the four suspects currently remain at liberty.
Weh also criticized the slow judicial processing of the case, expressing dismay at what he described as a lack of progress and a tendency for the court and prosecution to shift responsibility back and forth. The case has been stalled for months following legal challenges regarding searches and the seizure of data carriers.
