UK business leaders call for simpler tax system to drive growth
A survey of approximately 400 UK business leaders conducted by the accountancy firm Azets indicates that tax complexity is a significant barrier to local business growth. According to the Azets Barometer, 54% of respondents believe that simplifying the tax system should be a primary government priority.
While 47% of leaders identified addressing high corporation tax rates as a more pressing issue, the administrative burden remains substantial. HMRC estimates that compliant UK businesses spend roughly £15.4 billion annually to meet approximately 2,500 obligations across 27 different policy areas.
