Gdynia City Hall rooftop apiary sets record honey harvest

The rooftop apiary at the Gdynia City Hall has achieved a record harvest, collecting 275 kilograms of honey this season. This marks the highest yield in the seven-year history of the official city hives.

Since its establishment in 2020, the apiary has utilized four Buckfast bee colonies, with each family containing approximately 100,000 bees. The hives are maintained by Wojciech Albecki, president of the District Beekeeping Association in Gdynia, in cooperation with OPEC.

Local regulations in Gdynia permit the keeping of up to eight honeybee swarms on a single property, provided hives are placed at least 15 meters from buildings and away from windows on rooftops. City officials have emphasized that supporting bees is an investment in environmental security and effective plant pollination.
