Gdynia Mayor Aleksandra Kosiorek dissolves city council coalition

Gdynia Mayor Aleksandra Kosiorek has officially ended her political coalition with Civic Coalition, Urban Movements, and the Left in the Gdynia City Council. The decision was announced during an extraordinary session focused on a metropolitan resolution.

Kosiorek cited several reasons for the split, including opposition to the dismissal of Vice President Rafał Geremek and allegations that certain council members were overstepping their authority by interfering with executive functions. She stated that the coalition “no longer has a reason to exist” and expressed frustration that the current power dynamics in the Council have prevented her from implementing her election program.

The session also included attempts to remove City Council Chairman Tadeusz Szemiot. While an initial motion to dismiss him was not introduced to the agenda due to an abstention from a fellow party member, further proceedings regarding his position were noted.
