GE HealthCare to acquire SOFIE Biosciences for $945 million

GE HealthCare has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire SOFIE Biosciences for $945 million in cash. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, pending regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

The acquisition is intended to expand GE HealthCare’s presence in the U.S. radiopharmaceutical market for PET scans by establishing a last-mile distribution network for time-sensitive products. SOFIE Biosciences currently operates 15 units in the U.S. with 21 cyclotrons and includes a CDMO facility focused on theranostics.

The deal also includes U.S. rights to FAPI-74, a Phase III PET radiotracer with potential applications in oncology. GE HealthCare already holds the rights to this product outside of the United States. Following the acquisition, SOFIE will join GE HealthCare’s pharmaceutical diagnostics segment while continuing to operate as a contract manufacturer for various clients.
