Åge Sten Nilsen recalls arrest in Ukraine

Åge Sten Nilsen, the vocalist and frontman of the Norwegian rock band Wig Wam, has recalled his arrest at the Kyiv airport in Ukraine approximately 20 years ago.

Nilsen, known for representing Norway in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest, stated that the incident occurred following a dispute with a flight attendant. He described the environment in Ukraine at the time as being characterized by significant corruption and pro-Russian governance.

According to Nilsen, he was presented with a large volume of accusations written in Russian and was pressured to sign documents under the threat of a three-day imprisonment. He refused to sign the documents because he could not read them, eventually contacting the Norwegian ambassador in the country to resolve the situation.
