GE Vernova expands Veresegyház plant with solar park and new production lines

GE Vernova is modernising its Veresegyház gas‑turbine plant in Hungary, marking the facility's 25th anniversary. The plant, the company's largest Gas Power manufacturing base outside the United States, is receiving a $24.5 million investment backed by the Hungarian Investment Agency (HIPA). The upgrade includes a 2‑MW solar‑panel canopy completed in the first phase and a second phase that will add a 14.5‑MW photovoltaic system and a 40 MWh battery storage unit, covering more than 15 hectares and expected to supply roughly half of the plant’s 33 GWh annual electricity consumption with renewable energy.

New lean production lines, high‑precision machining equipment, robot‑welding stations and specialised coating chambers are also being installed. To support the expanded capacity, GE Vernova plans to hire over 80 additional skilled workers, bringing total employment at the site to more than 100. The combined upgrades aim to boost output, enhance energy independence and reduce the plant’s carbon footprint.
