GE Vernova to supply gas turbine technology for Vingroup LNG project

GE Vernova has signed an agreement with VinEnergo, a member of Vingroup, to provide advanced gas turbine technology for the Hai Phong LNG Power Plant in Vietnam. The project, developed by a Vingroup-VinEnergo consortium, has a total design capacity of 4,800 MW and an estimated investment exceeding 40,000 billion VND.

For the first phase, GE Vernova will supply two 9HA.02 gas turbines and two H78 generators, providing a capacity of 1,600 MW. The plant is targeted to begin operations by the end of 2030. The 9HA.02 technology is designed for large-scale combined cycle power plants, utilizing heat recovery systems to increase efficiency.

The turbines are noted for their flexibility, capable of rapid startup and adjusting to power demand fluctuations to support renewable energy integration. Additionally, the technology can burn fuel mixtures containing up to 50% hydrogen by volume, with a goal of moving toward 100% hydrogen usage in the future.
