Gears of War: E-Day generates $37M revenue via Game Pass

Gears of War: E-Day has generated an estimated $37 million in revenue despite relatively low direct sales of approximately 230,000 copies. According to analysis from Alinea Analytics, the game reached roughly 1.7 million players via the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

A significant portion of the revenue came from Game Pass subscribers opting for a $30 Premium upgrade, which provided early access and additional content. Approximately 722,000 players reportedly purchased this upgrade, bringing the total number of people who paid for the title to nearly one million.

Direct sales were split between Steam (168,000 copies) and Xbox platforms (62,000 copies). While the low unit sales have sparked debate regarding whether Game Pass cannibalizes traditional sales, the high engagement and upgrade revenue suggest a successful hybrid monetization model.

Additionally, developer The Coalition confirmed that the game's online services recently faced disruptions due to distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks caused intermittent connection issues and login difficulties for players on both Xbox and PC.
