Gebr. Heinemann extends Bari Airport duty-free contract

Gebr. Heinemann subsidiary Heinemann Italia has secured a contract extension with Aeroporti di Puglia at Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport. The agreement includes plans to open a new walk-through duty-free store exceeding 1,000 square meters on the terminal's second floor during the second half of 2028.

The expansion is contingent upon the completion of renovation and modernization work in the departures area. Once the new facility opens, the existing 600-square-meter main store on the first level will close, though the current 30-square-meter gate shop will remain operational.

The decision follows a reported 21.5 percent increase in sales for Heinemann Italia at Bari Airport between January and September 2026 compared to the previous year. The retailer attributed this growth to rising passenger volumes and an increase in international travelers. The new store is expected to place a significant emphasis on regional products to reflect Puglia's culture and heritage.
