Gebran Bassil criticizes Lebanese government and Hezbollah

Gebran Bassil, leader of the Free Patriotic Movement, has criticized the Lebanese government and Hezbollah regarding the country's current security and political situation. Speaking at an event in Zahle alongside former President Michel Aoun, Bassil emphasized that the movement seeks Lebanese interests above those of Syria, Israel, Iran, or the United States.

Bassil highlighted the urgent security, military, and social risks facing Lebanon, specifically noting the ongoing destruction caused by Israeli military actions. He stated that while the movement supports negotiations if they ensure a solution and Israeli withdrawal, current diplomatic efforts have turned into “hypocrisy” because Israeli advances continue despite agreements.

He placed responsibility on both the Lebanese authorities and Hezbollah. He criticized the government for failing to unify Lebanese citizens against external threats and accused Hezbollah of failing to initiate internal agreements despite being unable to stop Israeli military progress with its weapons. Bassil also announced an upcoming parliamentary accountability session to question government members regarding their relationship with Hezbollah and their role in the current crisis.
