GEDOK celebrates 100 years of supporting female artists

The GEDOK artists' association is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Founded in 1926 by art patron Ida Dehmel, GEDOK has grown into the oldest and largest network for female artists in Europe, designed to provide women with a professional place within a male-dominated art world.

To mark the centenary, several commemorative events and exhibitions are taking place across Germany. In Heidelberg, the Kurpfälzisches Museum is hosting a finissage on September 2, 2026, to conclude a series of presentations focused on women in art. This includes the LandArt installation ‘un/sichtbar’ by the duo Art and Nature, which explores the visibility of female artists in Heidelberg, and the ‘RE-THINKING’ pop-up exhibition featuring sculptural clothing made from recycled materials by Johanna Reutter.

Additionally, the GEDOK regional group in Karlsruhe is presenting the exhibition ‘Das Ganze und die Teile’ at the Regierungspräsidium, showcasing works from six regional groups within Baden-Württemberg.
