GEDOK Mitteldeutschland celebrates 100 years of supporting female artists
GEDOK Mitteldeutschland e. V. is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a day of events in Leipzig on September 20, 2026. Founded in 1926 by Ida Dehmel, the organization is recognized as Europe’s oldest and largest network for female artists across all disciplines.
The anniversary program, themed ‘Creating Art – Promoting Female Artists,’ will take place at the Nikolaikirche and the University of Music and Theatre ‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’. The schedule includes a service featuring local artists, a guided tour on women’s history, a panel discussion titled ‘Art as a Profession – Brilliant Path or Harsh Reality’ featuring GEDOK Federal Association President Béatrice Portoff, and various musical performances.
Karin Prien, the Federal Minister for Education, Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, serves as the patron for the anniversary year.
